Stewardship: Love in Action
It is God’s desire that we respond to him in love. Everything we do must be motivated by our love for him. In other words, stewardship is love in action.
God’s great love for us was demonstrated to the entire world at Calvary, where Christ, the Son of God, totally offered his life for us. Regardless of how high we may value the sacrifices of time, talent, and treasure that we bring to the altar, they pale in comparison to the sacrifice made by Christ on the cross for us. God’s sacrifice was motivated by our love for him. God gave us his firstborn, his best; we should also give him our “first fruits,” our best.
When love motivates our response to God’s call to be good and faithful in parish ministries; we no longer search the deep corners of our pockets of purses to find a dollar to put in the offering basket. Instead we find ourselves planning our activities and making our budgets around God.
God blesses us in proportion to how much we have given. Jesus himself said: “Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given” (Luke 6:38).
Sincerely in Christ,
