The Pastoral Council is a consultative body that is convened and led by the Pastor/Administrator and from whom the Pastor/Administrator seeks counsel in planning for the vitality of the parish. For an effective participation in the administration and pastoral care of the parish in conjunction with the different pastoral needs and concerns of the parish, the Pastoral Council shall have the following permanent Ministries which shall act collaboratively with each other. These Ministries are the Ministry on Worship, the Ministry on Evangelization, the Ministry on Family & Life; Life, the Ministry on Social Services and the Ministry on Youth.

Finance Council

The Finance Council is a consultative body formed to assist the Pastor in the administration of the temporal goods of the parish. Every parish is required to have an active Parish Finance Council which is a key element for promoting the financial health of the parish. The seven council members are appointed by the Pastor/Administrator for a period of three years based on their skills and expertise in Finance, Accounting, legal matters and communications.

The Finance Council plays an active role in the preparation of the budget and financial reports to be submitted to the Office of Fiscal Management in accord with the norms issued by the Diocese of Brooklyn. The Council Chair, on behalf of the entire council, must concur with the budget and accept the financial report submitted to the diocese. It also assists in the formulation and communication of the Annual Financial Report to the parish community, as required by Canon Law 1287.2. The Council provides assistance in Diocesan and Parish fundraising programs and also recommends new programs or changes to existing programs when revenues are insufficient.

The Finance Council is distinct from the Pastoral Council because each has a responsibility for the distinct aspects of parish life and the membership of each is different. The Finance Council ensures prudence in fiscal management; the Pastoral Council ensures vitality through participation and effective parish planning.

Despite the distinctions, the two councils are interrelated because both are concerned with the life of the parish. The Pastoral Council looks to the Finance Council for the resources needed to implement its programs while the Finance Council looks to the Pastoral Council for the realization of the mission of the parish.
